Proposition For a Possible Collection (title TBC) within the exhibition Somewhere in Between. Presentation of In-Residence Magazine and In-Residence Magazine #02 by Vermeir & Heiremans at Bozar, Brussels
20/06 – 19/08/2018
Opening 19 June 2018
Somewhere in Between. Contemporary Art Scenes in Europe
The exhibition brings together the multiple realities of art practices from all over Europe. It is both a meditation on the identity of East and West and an attempt to gather stories, experiences, relations and encounters from a wide range of artists, curators and other engaged individuals. BOZAR gives carte blanche to five artistic constellations. Three Brussels-based art spaces (Établissement d’en face, Komplot and La Loge), a group of Curatorial Studies students (KASK, Ghent) and curator Michal Novotny who, in collaboration with Kim Contemporary Art Center (Riga) and Bunkier Sztuki (Kraków), embarks upon a subjective Eastern European journey in his exhibition Orient, the New East Artists from the CEE region. These alliances are indicative of today’s European art scenes where artists roam freely, without the geographic restrictions or institutional constraints that once defined the continent.
Vermeir & Heiremans are invited by KASK (Ghent) to present In-Residence Magazine and In-Residence Magazine #02 at ‘Proposal for a Possible Collection’ (title TBC), a display of artist books, artist magazines, zines, ephemera and other publications. They are published by small or independent publishers, independent or grassroots organizations, collectives, artists or writers. The display is organized according to a geospatial model that takes the local as point of departure – in this case material originating from Kunstenbibliotheek in Ghent (including KASK, School of Arts and its partners). Proposal for a Possible Collection is part of the exhibition Somewhere in Between at Bozar.
