Panel: Collaborative preservation in technical environments
26 March 2026, 11:00 – 12:30
This panel explores how trust, care, and collective responsibility are reshaping the preservation of digital art. As digital sustainability moves beyond purely technical or institutional solutions, questions emerge around who takes care of digital artworks, how that care is organized, and what role communities, decentralized networks, and emerging technologies like blockchain can play. The speakers approach these questions from different scales and practices: Kelani Nichole introduces TRANSFER Data Trust as a model for trust-based stewardship; Tereza Havlíková and Sakrowski discuss Zentrum für Netzkunst and its aim for long-term care for net art; and Ronny Heiremans presents the project Eavatea, that stimulates collective ownership and preservation. Together, their contributions invite us to rethink preservation as a shared, evolving practice—one grounded in trust, agency, and collaboration.
