Jubilee Summer School 2026: Montavoix

Every summer, Jubilee members organise a summer school for each other and invited guests. In 2026, Maximiliaan Royakkers and Vincent Meessen prepared a week in and around Wim Cuyvers mountain hut Montavoix in the Haut-Jura, France

This collective journey unfolds over several days through a series of shared explorations, conversations, workshops, walks, visits and meals. Each day combines collective moments with individual contributions, allowing participants to discover landscapes, archives, practices, and one another’s research.

Tuesday
Immersion in the work of Fernand Deligny through a Reading Room, followed by a film screening about his work at social-cultural space La Zone du Dehors. The day concludes with a collective dinner.

Wednesday
The day opens with a food workshop led by Hélène Meyer, inviting us to cook and think together. Later, Wim Cuyvers takes us on a journey to explore the area through his eyes.

Thursday
We explore the vast surrounding landscape through a series of walking presentations and picnic stops. Along the way, Stijn Van Dorpe shares aspects of his PhD research, Vincent Meessen introduces the history of charcoal burners, Vermeir & Heiremans present the “mappothèque” – a collection of maps and reliefs maps by Élisée Reclus & Charles Perron, Filip Van Dingenen contributes an intervention, and Louise de Bethune leads a piano walk connected to her doctoral research.

Friday
Participants may join an optional day trip to Geneva. The morning includes a visit to the Archives Contestataires . In the afternoon, we visit the Library of Geneva to see the relief maps commissioned by Élisée Reclus, accompanied by Vermeir & Heiremans, in dialogue with the work of Federico Ferretti. There will also be time for a swim in Lake Geneva or the Rhône.

Saturday
The programme concludes with a visit to La Fraternelle in Saint-Claude, bringing together reflections and encounters from the week.
