23/11/2026, 09-10h
Sounding Urban Places was a 2 year research project involving artists, educators and local people concentrating on the Binckhorst area of The Hague, a former industrial area in rapid transformation.
The research questions included:
– How can artistic and practice-based sonic interventions enhance wellbeing and sustainability in urban areas?
– How can ecological sound art, sound studies, historical research, and ethnographic fieldwork, contribute to the development of participatory methods for documenting change over time in soundscapes?
– How can different stakeholders and individual citizens be directly involved in the design of more attractive sonic environments in urban areas?
The talk details some of the methods used, the experiences of the researchers and some conclusions.
This event is part of the Polyphonic Performance Spaces Research Festival.
