Memory Politics

Vincent Meessen‘s Vita Nova will be screened during a video programme curated by Maria Moseng at the Telemark Art Center in Skien, Norway

07/02 – 31/05/2015

Telemark Kunstsenter

Liegata 8

3717 Skien, Norway

The programme Memory Politics brings together artists concerned with the narration of history and the relationship between documentary images, memory and collective imagination. The four works that will be on view approaches the opacity of image production and circulation through alternate strategies of entanglement and revelation.

Through essayistic recontextualisation of archive material, revisiting myth, and re-enacting historical memory, they comment on the past as something that can appear to us collectively. Questions of political amnesia, iconoclasm and ideology criticism are all posed on the level of subjective imagination, leaving the official record as the real fiction.
