Screening and conversation about PILOOT’s film PLOT, during a ‘Tot in de Stad’ programme about gentrification in Ghent and Tbilisi, at Kunsthal Ghent
PILOOT is a transversal artistic research project about the Tondeliersite in Ghent. Filip Van Dingenen, Stijn Van Dorpe and Kunsthal’s Danielle van Zuijlen are part, while Clémentine Vaultier and Vermeir & Heiremans have contributed to the related situated The Orphans of Tar – A Speculative Opera
This Tot in de Stad meeting will start in the afternoon at 14h with a snack and a drink, after which Sophia Tabatadze will talk about her contribution to the book Tblisi, it’s complicated. This book brings together critical, artistic reflections on the recent urban and social changes in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. The book can be an alternative travel guide, to be used on the spot or read from a distance.
At 16:00, PILOOT will show the video of PLOT (40′, 2023), about an open-air opera at the Tondelier site and the Rabot, and talk to several people who collaborated on the opera. PLOT was organised by Stijn Van Dorpe, Kelly Schacht, Filip Van Dingenen and Danielle van Zuijlen, in collaboration with pKp, Joris Blanckaert and many people and organisations from the neighbourhood.
Sophia Tabatadze shows her documentary ‘Pirimze’, about the building of the same name in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. While this imposing building was still a centre of prosperity in the 1980s, it fell into disrepair in the 1990s when the Soviet Union broke up and Georgia gained independence.Craftsmen who used to work in Pirimze moved to smaller workshops in the surrounding district. The film shows these workshops and their fascinating crafts.Tabatadze also moved to the renovated business centre Pirimze Plaza, which replaced Pirimze. Was this transformation really necessary? After the screening, we will discuss Tabatadze’s film together.

Friday Evenings: This autumn, Kunsthal Gent presents a programme around one or more artists, a collective or organisation for 10 weeks during the Friday Evenings. We offer local partners a platform. And we put artists with whom Kunsthal Gent currently collaborates in the spotlight. Every Friday evening is different: from performance, artist talk and book presentation to conversation, dinner or film screening.
