7 Walks on Læsø

Vermeir & Heiremans‘ 7 Walks project focuses on common artistic and natural resources. The walk on Læsø is informed by the Danish artist Asger Jorn (1914-73), of whom we will visit the farmhouse and studio. Jorn established the studio as a space to host his friends and collaborators from the many collective art movements he initiated. Jorn, as the co-founder of the Situationist International, wanted to bring a revolution in daily life and walking as a methodology was one way to bring this about. Jorn grounded his practice in the ideas of the father of educational reform, N.F.S. Grundvig, including aspects of intellectual, cultural, and spiritual growth. Both of their thinking on egalitarianism, social solidarity, national history, poetry, personal development, teaching through dialogue, manual labour, and instruction in ‘citizenship’, will be guiding the walk on the island…
7 Walks is a site-specific project, strongly anchored in different local situations: the spa towns that sprang up throughout Europe, and their surrounding ‘therapeutic’ landscapes. The ambition of this research trajectory however is to contextualize local practices of ownership in a broader social, legal and political reading. This will become manifest in the different instalments 7 Walks intends to generate in a variety of places and contexts. The different public installments that took place will be distributed further in formats such as conferences, publications, exhibitions, performances…
