For 10 years, between 2004 and 2014, Contrechamp organized in Nantes (F) seven film screenings each year, featuring videos and films that bridge the gap between cinema and contemporary art. To mark Le Cinématographe’s move to new facilities in the city, this is the reprise of the very first screening originally scheduled in that series.

Shot in Burkina Faso, N12°13.062’/ W 001° 32.619′ Extended looks at the relationship between the construction of the planned city by urban planners and its reverse: the excavations in the so-called irregular city made by the people themselves. Two men wander through a deserted site in the outskirts of the city; at first sight it looks like an archaeological ruin. As the images reveal more of the environment, it becomes clear that the (de)construction was built by the two of them, hewn from the surrounding stone.
